This role sits within the Health Sector, where we work with NHS clients to provide advice across a range of product areas including valuations for reimbursement under the NHS Premises Costs Directions, Value for Money Advice, estates advice and IFRS compliant asset valuations.

You will work within a fast-paced team to meet increasing client requirements across a range of health sector casework including litigation cases. You will deliver complex casework, provide technical guidance to clients and colleagues and support other caseworkers within DVS. You will also assist with building capability within the team.

Senior Building Surveyor (Part time work option available)

Benefits: Up to £78,000 inclusive of bonus + 30 days holiday + private healthcare

Location: Hybrid working pattern: 2–3 days per week at a preferred office location (Cuffley or Littlehampton), with regular home working and travel to client offices and sites.

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for providing a full range of building consultancy and surveying services to our clients while also supporting the internal team and will:

• Act as the lead consultant to manage, lead, motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external staff to deliver projects and to act as technical lead across the building consultancy team.
• Manage all aspects of the client relationship ensuring OCG remain a trusted partner, and manage the delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered meeting all objectives around time, cost and quality.
• Manage all client duties and act as Principal Designer under both Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and for Building Regulations (non HRB).
• Conduct and overseeing a wide range of property surveys, feasibility and inspections
• Diagnosing defects and preparing detailed remedial specifications
• Acting as lead consultant and/or contract administrator on larger works
• Mentor, coach and develop the team

What we’re looking for

• Membership of a professional body e.g. MRICS or MCIOB
• Degree in Building Surveying or similar
• Significant relevant experience working within property & construction industry with evidence of project delivery ideally within the public sector
• Proven experience, practical & procedural knowledge in professional building surveying services and managing projects, including specification writing.
• Considerable depth of knowledge of relevant statutory property legislation including planning and building regulations, JCT contracts and CDM regulations
• Strong stakeholder management

• Strong leader, with good communication and attention to detail

• A methodical, problem-solving mindset with a customer-focused approach

• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for providing a full building surveying service to our clients while also supporting the internal team with technical queries.

• Provide technical and professional building services covering, employer’s agent, project management, design and contract administration services for multiple construction projects running simultaneously.
• Manage internal resources, contract drafting, and where applicable, managing other technical consultants as part of the design team.
• Manage principal contractors and ensure projects are tailored to meet the clients commission, are value for money and meet all objectives around time, cost and quality
• Communicate with both internal and external parties ensuring all information is available for the successful implementation and completion of projects to a high standard.
• Fulfil all duties on the client’s behalf including those required by the Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations 2015.
• Maintain relationships with existing clients and develop new client contacts and business opportunities.
• Develop relevant knowledge and skills and maintain an up-to-date awareness of all necessary legislation affecting the technical aspects of building surveying, sharing knowledge and information where appropriate.

 What we’re looking for

• Membership of a professional body MRICS or MCIOB
• Degree in Building Surveying or similar
• Experience working within property & construction industry with evidence of project delivery ideally within public sector
• Advanced theoretical, practical & procedural knowledge in professional building surveying
• In depth knowledge of building/facilities management contracts eg JCT contracts
• Strong stakeholder management

• Good communication skills for liaising with multidisciplinary teams and clients
• Proactive and detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring accuracy and quality in all deliverables
