Heat network zoning will give local communities the tools to accelerate the development of heat networks in their towns and cities.

Zoning will ensure that more homes and businesses can have access to greener, cheaper heat sooner by removing the barriers which currently limit the scale and pace of developing heat networks.

In 2023, around 2-3% of heat in the UK is provided by heat networks. It is estimated that heat networks will need to be supplying almost 20% of heat by 2050 to enable the UK to reach net zero.

Webinar programme

During 2024 we will host a series of webinars about different aspects of heat network zoning. This will include how zones are being identified, the types of buildings they will supply, how they will be constructed, operated and regulated and real-life examples of heat networks already in operation.

Webinar 1: Heat Network Zoning: An Introduction 
In this introductory session we will present an overview of heat network zoning and explain our plans for creating geographical heat network zones in English towns and cities.

We will discuss what heat network zoning will mean for a) building owners and operators within zones, and b) sources of waste heat – such as heat from industry or data centres – within zones.

During the session, we will also provide details of topics we expect to cover in future events and host a question and answer session.
